Membrane bioreactor technology for advanced municipal wastewater treatment strategies

Erftverband performs integrated water management for groundwater, surface waters and waste water in the catchment area of the Erft river and was the first one in Germany to treat domestic sewage by a full scale membrane bioreactor.

Erftverband operates 46 small and medium size wastewater treatment plants with an overall capacity of 1.1 million population equivalents and is meanwhile running two membrane bioreactor plants.The first one is purifying wastewater for 3.000 inhabitants since 1999. The second plant offers treatment for 80.000 and was comissioned in 2004 being the largest municipal MBR worldwide. A third plant is scheduled to go into operation in 2007.Erftverband is also conducting several research and development activities in the field of membrane application and plant operation. With the experience in process engineering and operation of membrane applications for municipal wastewater Erftverband provides expertise for companies and decision makers throughout the world.
